Job Description

We are looking for a staff scientist who can maintain and develop computing infrastructure in support of time domain astronomy. This will include large-scale databases of time series (>2 billion), transient alert brokering systems, federated data streams, and terascale machine learning inferencing, both real time and offline. The position is heavily associated with the Zwicky Transient Facility, but future projects will also involve a new IR survey telescope at Palomar (Winter), LSST, and other multimessenger astronomy projects.

Job Duties

  • Monitoring performance of time domain infrastructure.
  • Maintaining code repositories.
  • Performing regular deployments.
  • Regular database management including new data ingestion.
  • Addressing user issues and implementing new feature requests.

Basic Qualifications

  • PhD in CS or Astronomy or related fields
  • Basic Understanding of Astronomy.
  • 2+ years of professional python development.
  • Familiarity with modern coding practices in Python, JS.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Unix, Networking, Python, Containerization, Orchestration, Databases, CI/CD, Unit testing integration, cloud computing, modern JavaScript, Python Webframeworks and Machine/Deep Learning.
