Applications are invited for at least one Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work with Drs. Karín Menéndez-Delmestre, Thiago S. Gonçalves, Arianna Cortesi and Marco Grossi at Valongo Observatory of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro as part of the Laboratory for Extragalactic Astrophysics (https://lasex-valongo.com) on topics related to galaxy formation and evolution. The length of the appointment is up to 3 years. The positions are funded through various prestigious grants, including the Serrapilheira Institute and Rio de Janeiro’s Jovem Pesquisador Fluminense. Additional funding opportunities may become available through state/federal agencies. The team is active in a wide range of research subjects, including (though not limited to): galactic stellar structures, AGN, starbursts, star formation quenching, ISM in low-z analogs of high-z galaxy populations, galaxy-environment relation, formation and evolution of lenticular galaxies, galaxy kinematics. The selected candidate will be encouraged to conduct her/his own independent research projects and is also expected to collaborate with the team.
