Job Description

The NAOJ ALMA Project invites applications for a Project Research Staff (postdoctoral researcher) for ALMA Joint Scientific Research Program to conduct the research project “Study of activities of nearby galaxies with atoms and molecules” (started from April 1, 2021) using ALMA data (including archival data). The successful candidate will spend 100% of their time for this project in collaboration with Professor Takano at Nihon University (Koriyama-city, Fukushima, Japan). The successful candidate is required (1) to publish one first-author paper per year, and (2) to submit one ALMA proposal per year. The successful candidate may supervise students for the purpose of carrying out this project.

for details.

Applicants must have a Doctoral degree or equivalent in a relevant field. The successful candidate will be employed by NAOJ, and will be stationed at Nihon University. In case the PI of the project (Professor Takano) moves to another university or institute, the successful candidate is expected to accompany the PI. However, if such an arrangement is deemed difficult by the new university/institute, the successful candidate will be relocated to NAOJ in Mitaka and continue the proposed research project.

In principle, the term of employment is until March 31, 2023. The starting date is negotiable, but as soon as reasonably possible after the job offer has been accepted. The project has started from April 1, 2021. NAOJ will conduct a mid-term performance review of the project 1.5 years after the starting date of the project and may extend the term of the employment for an additional year (March 31, 2024). For a researcher who was employed by NINS after April 1, 2013, their term will be set so that the total employment period from April 1, 2013 will be less than 10 years. Any researcher who has been employed as a NAOJ Project Research Fellow for a total of five or more years is not eligible to apply for this position.
