The Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics Center for Exoplanets and Habitable Worlds (CEHW) at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for one or more research associate positions. Successful applicants will work with CEHW faculty on theoretical, observational, and/or instrumentation projects and will be expected to pursue programs of their own initiative. Of particular interest are candidates who will work with Prof. Fabienne Bastien on stellar photometric variability, stellar magnetic activity, exoplanet detection and characterization, and/or the analysis of ground and space-based stellar light curves, with Prof. Suvrath Mahadevan and the Habitable Zone Planet Finder team on a near-infrared Doppler Radial Velocity Survey with the Hobby-Eberly telescope to detect low mass planets around M dwarfs, and/or with Prof. Eric Ford on modeling radial velocity observations in the presence of stellar activity. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Astronomy, Physics, or a related field prior to the start date and a promising research record that demonstrates experience in stellar astrophysics and/or the detection and characterization of exoplanets. Applications must be submitted electronically at psu.jobs/job/66507 and include a cover letter, statement of research interests, a CV, list of publications, and names and contact information of three references. Questions regarding the application process can be directed to [email protected]. Please reference job #66507 in the email’s subject line. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until all positions are filled. The position start date is flexible, but a fall 2017 start is preferred. This is a one-year, fixed-term appointment, renewable for up to three years, subject to satisfactory performance. Applications received by January 15, 2017 will receive full consideration, but the search will continue until the position(s) are filled. We encourage applications from individuals of diverse backgrounds.
