Job Description

The High Energy Astrophysics Science Archive Research Center at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center plans to hire a civil service research astrophysicist to lead a cross-cutting effort to leverage Big Data resources and methodologies and enable the next wave of fundamental discoveries in astrophysics.

As a Research Astrophysicist specializing in advanced computational techniques, you will lead efforts to produce powerful open source software resources, toolkits, and science products utilizing cutting-edge data science, machine learning, and machine discovery technologies, including artificial intelligence, neural networks and deep learning, visual analytics, data analytics, and natural language processing. You will develop strategies to maximize the science return from NASA’s missions, especially from the interrelations and correlations between massive multi-wavelength datasets, and incorporating multi-messenger data. You will develop strategies to improve outcomes of science modeling and data assimilation through the use of innovative data processing, integration, and analysis techniques, and develop and recommend policies relating to the collection, use, and archiving of Big Data.

Desired qualifications include a PhD degree and publication record in astrophysics, physics, and/or relevant computer science topics. The appointment is for a mid/senior career position with salary commensurate with the applicant’s past experience. NASA is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer and a diversity of candidates is sought. U.S. citizenship is required for this position.
