Postdoctoral position in stellar astrophysics
Job Summary
Job Description
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Uppsala University invites applications for a postdoctoral position in stellar astrophysics. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to work within a project aimed at developing high-precision stellar spectrum analysis techniques, with emphasis on the physics of stellar atmospheres. The project focusses on making advances regarding atomic data and processes, non-LTE- and 3D- modelling relevant to solar-type (F, G, K) stellar atmospheres and their spectra. Problems at the interface between stellar spectroscopy and atomic physics, and their applications to radiative transfer modelling, are of particular interest. Applicants with backgrounds in stellar physics, stellar spectroscopy, atomic and molecular (astro)physics, and/or quantum chemistry, are encouraged to apply.
The position includes adequate funding for computers and travel. The successful applicant will also have the possibility to access SNIC (Swedish National Infrastructure for Computing), as well as a range of observational facilities such as the NOT (Nordic Optical Telescope) and ESO (European Southern Observatory).
The holder of a position as postdoctoral researcher must have a PhD degree or equivalent. The PhD degree must have been obtained at the start of the employment and no more than three years prior to the application deadline; however, periods of e.g. sick leave or parental leave are not counted.
The period of employment is 2 years.
The application should be submitted via the online application form (see URL below), no later than September 30, 2017. The application will only be accepted if submitted via the online form.
Compensation and Benefits
Sweden has a generous welfare system that includes paid parental leave, affordable daycare and practically free medical care.
