Postdoctoral Associate- Astrophysics
Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)
Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Astrophysics or closely related field in hand by start of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong background in one of more of the following: (1) previous analyses with astrophysical probes of dark matter, (2) experience with strong gravitational lensing, (3) coding and software development, (4) student mentorship experience or (5) statistical inferences from astronomical data.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator (Simon Birrer) https://sibirrer.github.io/group.html in the (Department of Physics & Astronomy) https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/physics/people/_profiles/birrers. The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.
The primary purpose of this position is to perform research, in collaboration with Dr. Birrer, the Principal Investigator (PI), on cosmological probes of fundamental physics, with an encouraged emphasis on strong gravitational lensing to understand dark matter and dark energy. Work that will inform strong lensing and dark matter research with the LSST project is particularly encouraged. The incumbent would also participate in the supervision of graduate and undergraduate students on research projects.

This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
