Postdoc for the CONCERTO [CII] intensity mapping experiment
Job Summary
Job Description
The CONCERTO collaboration invites applications for a post-doctoral position at the Laboratoire d'Astrophysique de Marseille. The applicants will join the GECO group containing ~40 faculty members, working on thematic ranging from stars to cosmology. The position is firmly funded for a duration of 2 years. The starting date is around October, 2018.
CONCERTO is a new spectrometer, based on the state-of-the-art development of new arrays in the millimeter using Kinetic Inductance Detectors. Spectra are obtained by a fast Martin-Puplett interferometer operating in the frequency domain 200-360 GHz. Main goal of CONCERTO is intensity mapping of the [CII] emission line at high redshift (4.5<z<8.5). Additional scientific goals ranges from the ISM of our Galaxy to the hot gas and velocity flows in galaxy clusters.
We seek a post-doc (a software engineer is also welcome) to produce detailed simulations of CONCERTO observations using a physical parametric model of the entire instrument. Such simulations have two cornerstones, the instrument model itself and the description of all the possible sources of noise in the observations. Aided by these simulations, the applicants will also build a classical data reduction pipeline. This work will benefit from the unique experience gained by our team of observing with the NIKA2 KIDs camera.
The successful application will have an experience in either the development of data reduction pipeline (preferentially in the IR, far-IR and (sub-)millimeter wavelengths) or in developing a physical parametric model of an entire instrument.
To apply, send a cover letter, description of experience, and CV as a single PDF document to Professor G. Lagache at [email protected], and arrange for two letters of reference sent to the same email address. The application deadline is June 1rst, 2018; review will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary includes comprehensive health care benefits and pension contribution.
