PhD Position or PostDoc in AGN reflection modeling
Job Summary
Job Description
The X-ray Astronomy Group at Remeis-Observatory, Bamberg, and Erlangen Centre for Astroparticle Physics, invites applications for a PhD position starting immediately.
The position is funded by the new DFG research group FOR 5195 "Relativistic Jets in Active Galactic Nuclei" and is initially funded for four years. The main aim of the project is the investigation of the use of X-ray data to provide constraints on the inner region of the accretion flow in radio loud active galactic nuclei. The successful applicant will be developing a new model for X-ray reflection by combining models for the reflection of X-rays from the accretion flow with (magneto)hydrodynamic models developed by other members of the research group and apply this model to observations made with X-ray satellites.
Applicants should have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree in physics, astrophysics, or a related field. Expertise with X-ray data analysis, some background in general relativitiy, and programming experience, ideally with a compiled language, are an asset.
Candidates who already have a PhD are also encouraged to apply, in this case the position would be available for three years at a higher salary.
FAU is an equal opportunity employer, all hiring decisions will be meit-based and made without consideration of age, gender, or nationality.
