The University of Arizona (UArizona) Department of Astronomy and Steward Observatory (SO) invites applications for the Steward Observatory Prize Fellowship in Cosmological Data Analysis. More information about the Steward Observatory Prize Fellowship program can be found here.
Fellows are expected to develop and lead an independent research program in any area of cosmological data analysis with ongoing and future surveys, in particular DES, DESI, SPHEREx, Rubin Observatory’s LSST, the Roman Space Telescope, and CMB-S4. Applicants should outline their research plans for optimizing the analyses of one or multiple of these datasets. Expertise in modeling cosmological observables through analytical methods or numerical simulations, machine learning, statistical inference, and data reduction is beneficial.
As members of the Arizona Cosmology Lab, fellows will be provided with priority access to UArizona and national supercomputing resources, close mentorship by experienced faculty, and opportunities to co-advise graduate students and mentor undergraduates. UArizona offers a world-class research environment in astrophysics with strong interdisciplinary programs across the Departments of Astronomy, Physics, Planetary Sciences, the UA Data Science Institute, UA Space Institute, and NSF’s NOIRLab.
Applicants must complete two steps to apply: 1) Complete brief UArizona employment application and 2) Upload required documents at secure UA Box portal . Applicants should arrange for three reference letters to be uploaded through the same portal.
Note: November 30, 2023 is the application deadline for multiple Steward Observatory Prize Fellowships. Complete applications submitted by the due date will be considered for multiple fellowships.
