Job Description

The Centre de Recherche Astrophysique de Lyon is offering a 3-year research-only post-doctoral position, as part of the "Planet-Forming Disks" project, supported by a French ANR grant.

The project brings together observers and theoreticians from the Astrophysics departments of Grenoble, Lyon and Nice, and aims at improving and constraining planet formation models from disk observations. The consortium has access to a large dataset coming from ALMA and SPHERE and will acquire more during the course of the project, as well as to a large number of magneto-hydrodynamics, dust/gas and radiative transfer codes.

The candidate will have a PhD in Astrophysics and an expertise in hydrodynamics and numerical simulations (preferably with a good knowledge of the SPH formalism). He or she will work on simulations of dust evolution and dust traps in protoplanetary disks and the production of synthetic images, and confront them to the latest observations, in order to understand how planet do form. He/she may assist on other aspects of the project, such as planet signatures.

The position is open from April 2017. The starting date is flexible but can be no later than October 2017. The net monthly salary will be around 2000 €. The position is based in the historic Observatoire de Lyon site of CRAL.

Applicants should send a resume, list of publications, statement of research interests and experience, and arrange for three letters of reference to be sent directly via e-mail to [email protected]. Applications will be examined as they come until the position is filled.
