The Faculty of Science, Institute for Physics and Astronomy at the University of Potsdam invites applications for the following position limited to three years, which will be filled by September 1, 2024:
The successful candidate will work 40 hours per week (100 %). The position is classified within remuneration group 13 of the collective wage agreement among the German states (TV-L). The fixed term of employment is in accordance with Section 2 subsection 1 of the German Act on Limited Scientific Contracts (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz or WissZeitVG). An extension is possible if personal and legal requirements are met. This position in plasma astrophysics group is made available due to the joint position that Prof. Huirong Yan holds at University of Potsdam and DESY. Strong tie with DESY (Deutsche Elektronen-Synchrotron) therefore is expected.
The Institute for Physics & Astronomy at the University of Potsdam supports a broad range of research in observational and theoretical astrophysics. It has close links with the neighboring Leibniz-Institute für Astrophysik (AIP) and Albert Einstein Institute in addition to DESY, which is one of the world’s leading research centres for particle and astroparticle physics.
The Applicant is expected to work on topics in the field of plasma astrophysics. Responsibly processing of research tasks and independent elaboration and performance of courses in the sector of Plasma Astrophysics are included. Attending to master and doctoral students are self-evident. Further scientific qualification (post-doctoral thesis (Habilitation)) is possible. At least one-third of working hours is available for in depth academic qualification.
Completed academic studies at an institute of higher learning (PhD) in Physics or Astronomy is required
Applicants with expertise on plasma astrophysics, MHD and PIC simulations, interstellar and interplanetary turbulence, magnetism are particularly encouraged to apply.
Beside the specialist skills social skills are expected too.
