Job Announcement Text:

Description:

A postdoctoral associate position in astrophysics is available at New York University’s (NYU) Center for Cosmology and Particle Physics (CCPP), starting in Fall 2023.  The postdoctoral associate will work with Prof. Anthony Pullen on projects related to applications of intensity mapping and other observational probes to constrain cosmology and galaxy formation.  This work will be performed in collaboration with Dr. rachel somerville and other science staff members at the Center for Computational Astrophysics (CCA) at the Flatiron Institute.

The CCPP ( https://cosmo.nyu.edu/ ) is a center designed to pursue astrophysics, cosmology, and high energy physics in a unified setting that encourages broad interaction between these disciplines.  Postdocs benefit from the lively atmosphere of the Center and a vigorous visitors program.   Within astrophysics, the faculty of the CCCP pursue observational and theoretical cosmology, astrophysics of galaxies and dark matter, large astronomical surveys, intensity mapping, astroparticle physics, exoplanets, high energy astrophysics, time domain astrophysics, and numerical astrophysics. Within high energy physics, the faculty of the CCPP pursue particle theory and phenomenology, gravity, cosmology, string theory, and experimental particle physics. The activities in the center encourage the interchange of ideas and cross-disciplinary collaboration among these areas.

The postdoctoral associate is expected to spend at least 50% of their research time on projects with Prof. Pullen.

The position is for 2 years with a 3rd year available contingent on continued satisfactory performance.  The position includes funding for a research budget.  As a member of CCPP, the associate will have full data access to the Sloan Digital Sky Survey V.  They will also have full data access to the DESI as well as the [CII]/CO LIM survey EXCLAIM.  In addition, they will be offered guest researcher status at the CCA.  The CCPP has close ties to the CCA, and the CCA hosts numerous opportunities for collaboration among astrophysicists in the NYC area through conferences and weekly meetings.

CCPP strives to further NYU’s mission as an inclusive institution and encourages applications from a diverse set of candidates.

Qualifications: The applicant must have a Ph.D. degree in Physics or equivalent before the start of employment with 4 or less years of postdoctoral experience at the start of employment.

Application Instructions: Your complete application must include a CV, publication list, a statement of research interests (not to exceed three pages total including text, figures, and references cited), and three letters of recommendation. The names of the people who will be submitting letters of recommendation should be listed in the application. The application should be submitted via Interfolio at http://apply.interfolio.com/114643 .

The application must be submitted via the online application; applications submitted by December 1, 2022 will receive full consideration.

For questions about the position, please contact Prof. Anthony Pullen at [email protected].
