Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in Stellar and Galactic Dynamics at the Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris
The Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris (IAP) is seeking candidates for a 2 year post-doctoral position in the field of stellar dynamics.
The successful candidate will be involved in the ANR project SEGAL (Secular Evolution of Galaxies; http://www.secular-evolution.org), focusing on the long-term evolution of stellar systems. We expect the candidate to work on the development and application of numerical and semi-analytical methods in the context of the long-term evolution of self-gravitating systems. This work will be carried out in close collaboration with J.-B. Fouvry (IAP), C. Pichon (IAP), and P.-H. Chavanis (Univ. Toulouse). The applicant will also benefit from the broader framework of the SEGAL collaboration involving ~30 experts. Besides these projects, independent research and leadership will be encouraged.
Applicants should have a PhD in physics, astronomy or related subject by the time of the appointment. We encourage applications from candidates with strong expertise in theoretical physics; solid skills in numerical methods and computer programming are also a must.
The appointment is for 2 years with salary depending on experience and including French social security benefits. Additional funding for conferences, collaborations, personal equipment and publications is available.
Applicants should submit a cover letter, a CV (max. 2 pages), a publication list, a short review of previous works and statement of research interests (max. 4 pages) through the link: https://emploi.cnrs.fr/Offres/CDD/UMR7095-JEAFOU-001/Default.aspx?lang=EN . Two to three recommendation letters should be sent directly to [email protected]. For full consideration, materials must be received before December 6th 2021.
