The Institute for Astro- and Particle Physics at the University of Innsbruck invites applications for a PhD position to study pre-main sequence stars with asteroseismology. The PhD student will join a newly established research group on "Stellar evolution & asteroseismology" led by Prof. Konstanze Zwintz. The group focuses on a better description of the physical processes acting in the pre-main sequence evolutionary stages with a particular emphasis on constraining the interior structures of young stars from their pulsations.
The PhD project will include observational analyses including data reduction and processing and detailed interpretation of data in terms of stellar variability and asteroseismology, but also modelling aspects for an asteroseismic interpretation of the observational findings. Observational data are available from the space missions Kepler K2, BRITE-Constellation and TESS as well as spectroscopic observations from different instruments on the ground.
The position requires a Master degree in Physis, Astronomy or Astrophysics and a basic knowledge of asteroseismic methods. Employment as a PhD student is for 4 years starting in October 2019 (tentative). Participation in teaching is required.
