Postdoctoral position in IGM Cosmology
Job Summary
Job Description
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the cosmology of the intergalactic medium (IGM) at the University of California, Riverside. The successful candidate will work with Professor Simeon Bird on cosmological simulations and the data science of large scale structure, with a particular focus on quasar absorption lines. A key goal will be to extract cosmological information from the Lyman alpha forest and other probes of the IGM.
Collaboration with other research programs being undertaken as part of the UCR Data Science Center, or additional, independent work related to this science case will also be encouraged. The researcher will have the opportunity to interact with UCR’s outstanding faculty, postdocs, and students, who pursue a broad range of interests in fundamental physics and extragalactic astrophysics.
The initial appointment will be for two years, with the possibility of renewal for a third year based on performance and available funding. The starting date is negotiable. Candidates must have a Ph.D. by the time of appointment.
Applicants should submit a CV, publication list and a brief description of research interests by email to [email protected], and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to the same address by January 17th, 2017. Further information can be obtained from Prof. Bird at [email protected].
