Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position at Michigan State University working with Prof. Laura Chomiuk on multi-wavelength observations of Galactic novae.
This group has active multi-wavelength programs to study novae at radio, optical, X-ray, and gamma-ray wavelengths, and synthesize observational findings with theoretical predictions. We are particularly interested in studying shocks in novae and imaging the ejecta morphology/evolution. We are also leading a systematic Galaxy-wide survey for novae with ASAS-SN. Michigan State has guaranteed access to the SOAR 4-m telescope in Chile. Inquiries about the position are actively encouraged ([email protected]).
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree in astronomy, physics, or a related subject by the appointment start. The initial appointment will be for one year and will be renewable for additional years upon mutual agreement.
Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, publication list, and a brief statement of research interests. Three letters of reference should also be submitted. All information should be uploaded to the web site careers.msu.edu using posting number 481116 (a link to this site can be found above). Note that the requests for reference letters are sent electronically once an application is submitted online, so it is useful to apply early. Review of materials will begin Jan 22, 2017. Michigan State University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity institution.
