Job Description

The Astronomy Department at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for postdoctoral researchers to join UT’s engaging and diverse high-redshift galaxy evolution group. The successful applicant(s) will work in collaboration with Prof. Caitlin Casey on a variety of datasets and projects, including the upcoming JWST Cycle 1 COSMOS-Web treasury program, the ALMA 2mm MORA Program, and a project aimed at building an extensive database of extragalactic spectra in the COSMOS field (more information on projects at http://www.as.utexas.edu/~cmcasey/postdoc2022.html). These projects are designed to address key unknowns in early Universe galaxy evolution; they focus on identifying which galaxies triggered reionization, how they were distributed in large scale structure, and how the high mass galaxies among them were built so quickly after the Big Bang. The assembly history of galaxy clusters at z>2 will also be a topic of study for interested candidates.

Applicants with experience in observational extragalactic astrophysics are encouraged to apply; those with expertise in optical/near-infrared (OIR) image analysis, OIR spectroscopy, sub/millimeter/radio astronomy, or SED fitting may be particularly well suited for the position(s). UT Austin is an EEO/AA employer and astronomers from traditionally marginalized racial or ethnic backgrounds and women are encouraged to apply.

UT Austin has a large astronomy community, and is committed to an equitable and inclusive environment. The successful applicant will also have significant opportunity to engage with undergraduate and graduate students as a mentor, both in organized summer research programs and throughout the academic year, and in our department’s many public outreach activities. The successful applicant will have access to high-performance computing resources within the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) and the McDonald Observatory facilities.

By the anticipated start date of 1-Sep-2022 the applicants should have obtained a Ph.D. in Astronomy or Physics. The appointment is for an expected period of three years (based on satisfactory performance). Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Applicants should submit a CV, list of publications, a statement of current and future research interests as a single PDF at the following link:

Applicants should arrange for three letters of reference to be submitted electronically via this link:
