1. faculty engage in, are responsible for, manage, and/or execute significant areas of research or scholarship. They may serve as principal or co-principal investigators on grants or contracts, manage postdoctoral fellows and their research projects or supervise graduate or undergraduate student research. Research Faculty hold full-time, non-tenure track positions. While they may participate in instructional programs, such as lectures or demonstrations, they are not assigned regular teaching duties.

 

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Macaulay Honors College (MHC), one of the 25 schools and colleges in the CUNY system, invites outstanding candidates to apply for a collaborative research faculty position based in New York City. We seek candidates who use computational and theoretical tools to explore topics in astrobiology and planetary and exoplanetary atmospheres.

 

MHC seeks a full-time research faculty position that is anticipated to begin on September 1, 2021 for one year and then be annually reappointed thereafter, for a total of six years, subject to satisfactory performance. The incumbent will be expected to engage and supervise Macaulay students in his/her research; provide lectures to Macaulay audiences at large and in seminars; supervise capstone/springboard senior projects; participate in the annual STEAM Festival; and add to the intellectual life of the college by hosting and participating in colloquia. The Research Assistant Professor, during his/her time at CUNY, will regularly engage as a visiting scholar at the Simons Foundation’s Center for Computational Astrophysics (CCA). The successful candidate will be one who is passionate about involving talented undergraduates in multidisciplinary research, and sharing expertise within a small, multidisciplinary faculty. As chemistry and biological sciences are among the top three majors at Macaulay, students are eager to participate in lab research. We seek candidates who demonstrate the desire and potential to develop an exciting research program, and provide individual mentorship opportunities and group research projects. This position reports to the Chief Academic Officer/Senior Associate Dean at MHC.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in area(s) of expertise or equivalent. Also required are success in carrying out research and ability to advise and/or oversee the direct work of others.

 

A preferred candidate should have:

• PhD degree in physics, astrophysics (with a focus on astrobiology), or geoscience or a closely related discipline.
• Postdoctoral research experience.
• Undergraduate teaching experience.
• Experience in communicating science to general audiences.
