Job Description

MIDDLEBURY COLLEGE, MIDDLEBURY, VT      The Department of Physics seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position, beginning September 2023. We seek an intellectually vigorous individual who is committed to excellence in both teaching and research, and who will contribute to Middlebury College’s mission to “engage students’ capacity for rigorous analysis and independent thought within a wide range of disciplines.”  Candidates should provide evidence of commitment to excellent teaching at all levels and potential to develop a strong research program involving undergraduate participation.  Candidates should hold a Ph. D. in astrophysics or a closely related field, preferably with some post-doctoral experience.  The field of specialization within astrophysics is open, but candidates who provide research opportunities outside of our current strength in quasar physics are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will address ways in which the Mittelman Observatory, housing a 24-inch DFM Engineering telescope, may be used in their teaching. Review of applications will begin November 1, 2022 and end when the position has been filled, provided that a suitable candidate has been found. Middlebury College uses Interfolio to collect all faculty job applications electronically. Email and paper applications will not be accepted. Through Interfolio, submit an application addressed to the department chair, Professor Noah Graham, including curriculum vitae, unofficial undergraduate and graduate transcripts, a statement of teaching and research plans, and three current letters of recommendation, at least two of which must speak to teaching ability.  More information is available at http://apply.interfolio.com/110324.
