The West Virginia University Research Corporation (WVURC) invites applications for a project manager who will coordinate activities, resources, and communications for the International Pulsar Timing Array (IPTA), a collaboration between international consortia working to detect low-frequency gravitational waves by timing millisecond pulsars using the world's largest radio telescopes. The IPTA project manager will work to broaden the reach of the IPTA beyond researchers and students from North America, Europe, and Australia to include China, India, and South Africa.
The IPTA project manager’s tasks will include coordinating dataset combination and gravitational wave analyses, overseeing the development of cyberinfrastructure for data sharing and processing, managing working group tasks and timelines, determining resources needed for critical tasks, and organizing meetings and telecons.
The position requires a master’s degree or PhD in astronomy, physics, project management, or related fields; and at least three years of experience in management of research projects, including funding and personnel allocation and timelines. Additional requirements are: at least three years of experience working with partners in multiple countries; demonstrated skills in communication, organization, and consensus-driven decision making; ability to attend telecons outside of normal working hours; and ability to travel internationally. The successful applicant will have experience in data management and analysis of large datasets and experience in science outreach and education. Familiarity with astrophysics research, radio pulsar data analyses, and/or cyberinfrastructure development for research and educational purposes is helpful. This position is funded for five years, with possible renewal given funding availability.
