Tenure-Track Faculty Position in High Pressure studies in the fields of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the University of Rochester

The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences (EES) at the University of Rochester invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Earth and Planetary Sciences. We seek applicants whose research lies in the general field of high-pressure experimental research, specifically those who apply novel and emerging techniques to investigate the material properties of deep interiors of Earth and other planets in the solar system and beyond. We are seeking candidates with expertise in mineral physics, and/or materials science that are relevant to planetary processes using techniques such as, but not limited to, diamond anvil and/or multi-anvil cells. Areas of interest also include the rheology of materials deep within the Earth and other planets, thermodynamics/isotope systematics under extreme P-T conditions, computational mineral physics, and planetary seismology. We especially encourage candidates who have strong research interests that overlap with existing capabilities and strengths at the University of Rochester in our department and others (i.e. Laser Laboratory for Energetics, Data Science, Physics and Astronomy, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and the Institute of Optics). We encourage applicants to look into the university's strategic plan to demonstrate connections with the existing centers.

The expected start date of the position is July 1, 2024. We are interested in dynamic researchers and educators who can establish an externally funded, internationally recognized research program. Please see http://www.ees.rochester.edu for more information about the EES Department. The University of Rochester is a highly ranked research university, and the Rochester area's cultural, educational, and recreational assets frequently place it among the best places to live, work, and raise a family in the United States.

Applicants should submit materials via https://apply.interfolio.com/131020. Materials include a curriculum vitae, statements of research and teaching goals, a statement of your commitment to advancing equity and fostering an inclusive and diverse community in academia, and the names and contact information of three people who agreed to provide a letter of reference. The formal review of applications will begin on November 1, 2023 and will continue until the position is filled. For questions regarding this position, please contact Miki Nakajima ([email protected]) and Tolulope Olugboji ([email protected]).

The University of Rochester has a strong commitment to principles of diversity and, in that spirit, actively encourages applications from groups underrepresented in higher education. EOE Minorities/Women/Protected Veterans/Disabled
