Job Description

The Univeristy of Warwick seeks to appoint a motivated and driven Research Fellow within the Astronomy and Astrophysics Group, to commence as soon as possible with up to 3 years of funding depending on the start date (preferably starting as soon as possible). Backgrounds in solar or stellar physics are preferred, especially in the area of stellar modelling; areas outside these are encouraged if they complement the project. Experience with exoplanet science is desirable.

The successful candidate will work with Dr Heather M. Cegla on the “Pathway to the Confirmation and Characterisation of Habitable Alien Worlds,” funded by the UK Research and Innovation Future Leaders Fellowship programme. They will utilise state-of-the-art 3D magnetohydrodynamical simulations and perform spectral line synthesis to create realistic stellar surface simulations. The aim is to further our understanding of exoplanet hosts and improve the radial velocity detection and mass confirmation of low-mass, long period planets. Duties will also include analysing and presenting results in peer-reviewed publications and at national and international conferences.

The Astrophysics group at the University of Warwick is one of the UK’s leading exoplanet research groups, and provides an excellent environment for a motivated Research Fellow to further their scientific career. Some of the post holder’s time may be available for their own independent research and/or to collaborate with our Centre for Fusion Space and Astrophysics, preferably in the area of exoplanets or stellar/solar physics.

The closing date for applications is 26 November 2023. Applications must include:

  • a CV with your most recent employment experience along with any additional relevant experience and education history (maximum 2 pages),
  • a cover letter detailing how you meet the essential and desirable criteria for this post (maximum 1 page),
  • a brief statement of research interests, composed in an anonymous style (maximum 2 pages),
  • a list of publications/research outputs (no page limit),
  • and a statement on commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion (maximum 1 page).

No other materials will be accepted and incomplete applications will not be considered. For more details on candidate requirements and responsibilities, essential and desirable criteria, or the application procedure, please seehttps://tinyurl.com/WarwickResearchFellow.
