Job Description

The Astrophysics Group at the University of Melbourne invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Observational Cosmology, working with Dr Christian Reichardt.

The position will present opportunities for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to take a major role in studies of galaxy clusters selected by the Sunyaev-Zel’dovich effect in the SPT-3G survey on the South Pole Telescope, and their use as cosmological probes of dark energy and neutrinos. The successful applicant will work closely with international collaborators on South Pole Telescope project. A fraction of the time will be available for independent research projects.

The position is offered for two years with the possibility of extension, based on performance. The salary range is $87-93k AUD. Assistance with visas and relocation is available. The School of Physics is a partner in the ARC Centre of Excellence for All-sky Astrophysics in 3 Dimensions and ARC Centre of Excellence for Gravitational Wave Discovery, and provides a vibrant collaborative environment. The School collaborates with researchers around the globe to address some of the most fundamental problems today in astro- and particle physics. In addition to the SPT, the School works on the MWA radio telescope, LHC and LIGO. The School also has substantial expertise in neutrino and ‘Beyond the standard model’ physics.
