Job Announcement Text:

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position to work with Prof. Vernesa Smolcic at the University of Zagreb, Croatia. The position will be funded through the European Research Council Starting Research Grant project 'Constraining stellar mass and supermassive black hole growth over cosmic time: Paving the way for the next generation sky surveys'. The candidates will have the opportunity to work with the rich multi-wavelength COSMOS and XXL survey data-sets to explore the properties and cosmic evolution of star forming and AGN galaxies, as well as intensely star-forming, submillimeter galaxies. The candidates will become part of the COSMOS and XXL collaborations, and they will work on these data with the PI of the radio data-sets. The COSMOS and XXL survey data-sets include data from (Large) programs at the Jansky VLA, Spitzer, Chandra, ALMA, ATCA, GMRT.

Applicants should have a PhD in astronomy, astrophysics, or a closely related field, and they should ideally have experience with multi-wavelength sky survey data handling, analysis, and interpretation, as well as preferably radio/mm observations. The appointment will be for a period of one year with a possible extension depending on funding availability. A competitive (EU-level) salary, and an excellent benefit package will be offered. Generous traveling and computer budgets will be provided, as well as extensive financing for (collaboration) visitors to the University of Zagreb.

The appointments will be conducted within the astrophysics team, led by Prof. V. Smolcic, visit  www.pmf.unizg.hr/phy/en/zgal for more details. Tight collaborations exist with the Max-Planck-Institute for Astronomy in Heidelberg (Germany), University of Bonn (Germany), National Radio Astronomy Observatory (USA), Cornell (USA) and Caltech (USA). The team has preferred access to COSMOS and XXL survey data, and participates in EMU, LSST, and SKA.

Applicants should send their CV, publication list, and a research statement stating their interests and motivation for the position to prof. V. Smolcic ([email protected]), S. Pozar ([email protected]), and HR ([email protected]) by Aug/15/2017, as well as arrange for three reference letters to be sent to the above addresses by the same date. The starting dates are expected to be by the end of 2017; earlier dates are possible.
