Postdoctoral position on galaxy truncations and diffuse light in Euclid and other ultradeep imaging

This is a 2-year postdoc position at the University of Valladolid (UVa, Spain) funded by the “Galactic Edges and Euclid in the Low Surface Brightness Era" project. The work will consist in the development of Machine Learning algorithms to detect Low Surface Brightness distant galaxy features, especially for galaxy truncations in Euclid data (and simulations) and other ultradeep imaging (HST, JWST). 30% of the time is free to conduct any previous projects. A strong profile on Machine Learning is preferred --see conditions in the provided links--. The UVa actively seeks a diverse applicant pool.

The successful candidate will work within F. Buitrago's group and will benefit from his collaborations (e.g. Euclid's Local Universe --where the PI leads the Diffuse Light Working Package-- Working Group). A strong interaction with the UVa's Computer Science and Mathematical Physics departments are expected. Both have a nice working atmosphere, regular seminars and the possibility of supervising students. Valladolid is a lively city at an hour's distance from Madrid, with plenty of monumental places and astounding nature nearby.

The salary is 2.098,68 euros/month before taxes (12 pays/yr). The successful candidate will also receive full Spanish social benefits (e.g. medical insurance and parental leave) and will make use of the UVa machine-learning computer facilities.
