The Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Tuebingen (IAAT) invites applications for a
PhD position (duration 3 years; starting date Sep. 1st, 2019)
of a DFG (German Research Foundation) funded project in the fields of stellar atmospheres and atomic data, entitled
Transition Probabilities of Trans-iron Elements
The PhD project focuses on the calculation of transitions probabilities of trans-iron elements from copper to barium with a pseudo-relativistic Hartree-Fock approach. The newly calculated data will be used to search for and to identify spectral lines of trans-iron elements and to determine their abundances in hot white dwarf stars. Applicants are required to have a master or equivalent university degree in astrophysics or physics.
The position is available starting September 1st, 2019. A later starting date may be negotiated. The salary is based upon the German federal public service scale (66% of E13 TV-L) and includes full employee benefits. The process of hiring the selected candidate is handled by the central administration of the university. The university seeks to raise the number of women in research and teaching and therefore encourages qualified women to apply. Severely handicapped persons will be preferentially considered in case of equivalent qualifications. Interested students are invited to send (electronically) their application including motivation letter, curriculum vitae, copies of university degrees/records, and the contact addresses of two references until the position is filled.
