Job Description

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Experimental Very-high-energy Gamma-Ray Astrophysics. The post is available initially for a fixed-term duration of 12 months from 1st April 2021, with the possibility of extension for 2 further years from 1st April 2022, subject to the availability of funding.

We are recruiting a PDRA to work with the Oxford gamma-ray astronomy group, reporting to the group leader, Professor Garret Cotter.     

The post holder will work on data analysis techniques and software for the Small-Sized Telescopes of the Cherenkov Telescope Array.

The post holder will be afforded membership of the CTA and H.E.S.S. collaborations.

The post holder will provide guidance to junior members of the research group including Ph.D. and project students. 

The applicant should either hold a Ph.D. in the field of experimental very-high-energy gamma-ray astrophysics, or be close to completing

Previous experience in the field of simulations and analysis of Imaging Air-Cherenkov Telescopes and camara software will be an advantage.

Candidates will be expected to work efficiently on specific technical tasks in the context of a large collaboration, co-ordinating with colleagues at other institutes in the UK and internationally.

The post-holder will have the opportunity to teach undergraduate tutorials and lab classes, and to assist in undergraduate research projects.
