Job Description

In the frame of an Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR) project, we are seeking a qualified candidate for a position in the Galaxy Group at the Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris (IAP).

The candidate is expected to invest most of his/her time on z-GAL, an international project aimed at investigating the nature and physical properties of the brightest sub-millimeter galaxies in the Herschel surveys.

The appointment is for two years and could start as early as possible.

As a member of the z-GAL consortium, the candidate i) will be fully involved in the scientific exploitation, analysis and modeling of the data collected with the NOEMA and ALMA interferometers; ii) collaborate on follow-up research activities conducted in the frame of the z-GAL project; iii) contribute to the modeling of the gravitational lensing.

We are seeking qualified candidates with a PhD, preferably with a demonstrated observational experience and a strong interest in (sub)millimeter wave interferometry and in the field of gravitational lens modeling.

Good English communication skills and a strong sense of team spirit are essential attributes.

Aptitude and interest in developing software applications and working experience in an international research environment are assets.

The current position offers the opportunity for astronomers to work with world-class research facilities and pursue their career in a very dynamic and competitive field of research at the IAP, an internationally renowned institute.

Interested candidates should send their curriculum vitae, bibliography, a brief statement of research interests, an outline of future plans, and arrange for three letters of reference.
