Job Description

The Department of Physics at Brown University invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate to work on the EXoplanet Climate Infrared TElescope (EXCITE). EXCITE will test new technologies in measuring spectroscopic phase curves from a long duration balloon platform to understand atmospheric dynamics of exoplanets. The Brown team is supporting multiple components of the EXCITE mission. The successful candidate will be involved in the design, construction, observations and analysis.

The ideal candidate would have experience with exoplanet research and a broad set of skills such as cryogenic, optical and mechanical design and software development to support this engineering driven science. Strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively with an extended experimental collaboration are essential. Travel to support integration, testing and flights will be required. Applicants with a broad set of skills and experience are encouraged to apply. The start date is flexible, but would ideally be by early 2021. Initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility of renewal. Applicants should have a Ph.D in Physics or related field before the starting the position and have at least a year of relevant research experience including instrumentation development.
