Job Description

Applications are invited for postdoctoral positions at the Tel Aviv University Department of Astrophysics to work with Dr. Benny Trakhtenbrot. The positions are for observational research of accreting SMBHs and AGN, including low- and high-redshift AGN surveys, super-Eddington systems, changing-look AGN and other new types of extremely variable accretion events. The research is supported by grants from the ERC and the Israel Science Foundation.

The successful applicants will benefit from access to the Las Cumbres Observatory global network of robotic telescopes, the Wise Observatory telescopes, as well as access to proprietary data from the BASS and SDSS-V projects. The successful applicants will be encouraged to pursue research within these collaborations, to develop their own independent research path, and to collaborate with other members of the Tel Aviv University Department of Astrophysics.

Tel Aviv University is located in the northern part of Tel Aviv - a vibrant, liberal, cultural city on the shore of the Mediterranean. The Department of Astrophysics is welcoming a growing number of postdocs, supported by four ERC grants on various topics, and has close ties to other astrophysics departments in Israel and around the world.

Applicants should have a PhD in astrophysics by the start time of the position and experience with observational astronomy. The initial appointments are for 2 years, starting no later than Fall 2021, with a possible extension for a third year.

Applicants should email a full CV, including a list of publications, a brief (under ~3 pages) description of research accomplishments and interests, and arrange for three reference letters to be sent to Mrs. Daniella Gabrielovitch ([email protected]).

Full attention will be given to applications received by December 31st, 2020.
