The International Space Science Institute (ISSI) in Bern, Switzerland, invites applications for a Discipline Scientist in Planetary Sciences.

The Discipline Scientist is expected to work a maximum of 25 working days per year for ISSI at the Institute’s premises in Bern, Switzerland. We are seeking an active midcareer, internationally recognised Planetary Scientist with demonstrable and broad scientific contributions, and who will be able to independently propose and implement high-impact scientific activities at ISSI related to Planetary Sciences. Experience with Planetary Space missions is an added asset.

ISSI is a premier institution in Space and Earth Sciences that advances science by facilitating open multidisciplinary discourse in a stimulating environment. ISSI hosts 1000+ visitors per year through Workshops, Forums, International Team collaborations and visits by individual scientists. The Discipline Scientist shall support ISSI’s scientific leadership in the design, planning and execution of the scientific programme in Planetary Sciences, i.e., from small bodies to planets. The Discipline Scientist is also expected to contribute to, foster and augment the scientific environment of the Institute, participate to the scientific life of ISSI and increase ISSI’s visibility in the Planetary Science community worldwide.

The appointment will be for a period of one year and is renewable. ISSI will offer a salary, and cover the travel costs and the accommodation while in Bern.

Applications from interested scientists should include: 1) a cover letter discussing the candidate qualifications and rationale for the application, and 2) a curriculum vitae including a publication list. Scientists based in ESA member states are particularly encouraged to apply.

All applications must be submitted to ISSI by April 15, 2023, through the online submission form. The final selection will be communicated no later than May 15, 2023. The earliest possible starting date for the Discipline Scientist is July, 2023.
