The Millennium Scientific Iniciative Institute on Astrophysics (MAS) is a center for research in Chile that includes Astrostatistics as one of its main research lines, with particular emphasis on the problems arising from large surveys that explore the time domain. The Institute is a large collaboration of Astronomers, Statisticians and Computer Scientists whose members are located at several Universities in Chile.
The MAS Institute invites applications for a postdoctoral position in the field of Astrostatistics to work along Prof. Susana Eyheramendy at the Department of Statistics of the Pontificia Universidad Catlica de Chile (PUC). We are seeking to appoint a scientist with interest in the application of probabilistic, statistical and machine learning methods to astrophysical data and theory in the context of the ALeRCE project (http://alerce.science/). While all areas of Astrostatistics will be considered, we are particularly interested in researchers with experience in machine learning and/or the analysis of time series arising from large surveys.
The starting date for the position is negotiable. The appointment is for one year, with renewals for up to a fourth year possible, contingent upon satisfactory progress and availability of funding. The fellow will receive a competitive salary as well as a research budget including travel and hardware. The Department of Statistics of PUC is located in the same building as the Institute of Astrophysics of PUC, allowing for easy access to its very active scientific life in addition to that of the Statistics Department.
Interested researchers should send a CV (including publication list) and a description of research interests (max of 3 pages) to Prof. Susana Eyheramendy email@example.com. Applicants should also request for at least 2 letters of recommendation to be sent directly from the writers.
Applications received by December 15th 2018 will receive full consideration
