Job Description

The astrophysics group at Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest invites applications for postdoctoral fellowships in extragalactic high-energy astrophysics, in particular gamma-ray burst and gravitational wave astrophysics. The successful applicants will closely collaborate with Péter Mészáros and with the research groups of Norbert Werner, Zsolt Frei, and Bence Kocsis. The applicant can expect to spend a substantial fraction of time visiting Pensilvania State University and Hiroshima University. The current research of the astrophysics group at Eötvös University includes studies of clusters of galaxies, AGN feedback, gravitational wave astrophysics, pulsar timing, galaxy surveys, and theoretical black hole and accretion physics. We are in the planning stages for a nanosatellite mission for GRB observations. Our University is a member of several large international collaborations, including LIGO, Pan-STARRS, and LSST. The successful applicants are expected to carry out an independent research program and collaborate with the growing young, international team of researchers at Eötvös University.

The positions are for two years with the possibility of a third. Starting dates are negotiable and may begin in September of 2018.

Applicants should e-mail a curriculum vitae, brief statement of research interests, list of publications, and arrange to have three letters of reference e-mailed to Norbert Werner ([email protected]) by January 19, 2018. The positions will remain open until filled by a suitable candidate.
