Leading Scientist in Theoretical Astrophysics or Astroparticle Physics

The Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics performs experimental and theoretical basic research in the fields of Astroparticle Physics (the crossroads of particle physics and astrophysics) and Quantum Dynamics (many-body dynamics of atoms and molecules). Experimental activities in astroparticle physics at our institute include a strong engagement in high-energy gamma ray astronomy with the H.E.S.S. and HAWC instruments and the future CTA Observatory, as well as in dark-matter detection experiments (XENON) and in non-accelerator neutrino experiments. The new Cryogenic Storage Ring CSR allows investigation of atomic and molecular processes under space conditions.

Applicants are expected to establish an internationally visible research group, complementing existing expertise in theoretical physics at MPIK, and interacting with and strengthening our experimental efforts.

Contract arrangements will be negotiated within the context of German public service salary scales, depending on experience.
