Assistant Professor Brian Metzger invites applications for a postdoctoral position in theoretical high energy and stellar astrophysics in the Department of Physics at Columbia University starting on, or before, September 1, 2017. The successful candidate will pursue research into topics in time-domain astrophysics, including (but not limited to) supernovae, compact object binary mergers, tidal disruption events, white dwarf pollution events, and classical/recurrent novae.
The Columbia Center for Theoretical Physics offers a vibrant environment for astrophysics research in close proximity to the Department of Astronomy. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in physics or astronomy or an equivalent degree by the date of employment.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Opportunities will be available for international travel and independent research. Initial appointment will be for two years, with a chance for extension up to three years, depending on satisfactory performance and availability of funding.
