Job Description

REXIS (on OSIRIS-REx) Data Analysis Pipeline Software Developers (2) Needed ASAP

The REXIS (Regolith X-ray Imaging Spectrometer) instrument on the recently launched OSIRIS-REx mission was designed and built by students and staff at MIT and Harvard and will do X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy and mapping of elemental abundances on the asteroid Bennu beginning in early 2019. The REXIS data analysis pipeline is under development at the Harvard/CfA. Two positions are available for either recent undergraduates (perhaps contemplating graduate school) or postdocs to work with us on both simulations for REXIS imaging and Pipeline data analysis coding. We seek software engineers who are well experienced in Python and C coding. Some coding modules may be IDL.  Ideal candidates will have MPI or GPU/CUDA coding experience.  Experience with image processing, efficient coding and documentation, and Computer Science generally is desirable. Both positions can start immediately, with expected duration of 2 years. Salary and benefits are competitive and will depend on experience. Please contact Josh Grindlay ([email protected]) for more information about the project if you have questions.

Applicants should submit a Vita, summary of their coding expertise, past experience and projects, and request 2 letters of recommendation to be sent to Prof. Josh Grindlay at the email address given above. Applicants must be either US citizens or Green Card holders to comply with NASA requirements for access to parts of the data processing system for the OSIRIS-REx mission.  Applications are encouraged by June 30, 2017, but these positions will remain open until filled.
