Job Announcement Text:

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Florence (Italy) invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship from enthusiastic researchers with strong background in Physics and Cosmology. The Fellowship is co-funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MIUR) through the PRIN grant “Quest for the First Stars” and by the European Research Council through the ERC starting grant NEFERTITI.

The successful applicant will be based in Florence to actively work with the NEFERTITI Team, led by Prof. Stefania Salvadori (University of Florence). He/she will strongly interact with the overall PRIN team, coordinated by the PI Prof. Andrea Ferrara (Scuola Nornale Superiore of Pisa).

The research areas include first stars and galaxies, with particular emphasis on IGM metal enrichment and chemical abundance of high-z Damped Lyman Alpha and Lyman Limit systems. Candidates with experience in the development/use of cosmological simulations of metal enrichment and/or in the analysis of high-resolution spectra of high-z absorbers are strongly encouraged to apply. An excellent academic record, good command of English and strong communication/writing skills will be important criteria for the selection.

The candidates must hold a PhD in Physics or Astrophysics at the begining of the fellowship. The appointment is offered for three years starting from May the 1st 2021, with possibility of a delay upon agreement. The gross salary will be of 27,000 €/year. Non italian applicants will also receive an integration of 1,500€/year for the Mobility Allowance. Generous research and travel funds will be available.

The expressions of interest must arrive no later than January 4, 2021 at 1.00 pm (GMT+1) using the documents (p. 32 for English) available at:
