The Astrophysics Theory Group at JILA/University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for two or more Postdoctoral Research Associates nominally starting Fall 2019. We welcome applications from candidates interested in a wide range of topics in gravitational dynamics of planetary and/or stellar systems, astrophysical fluids and plasmas, and high-energy astrophysics. Research topics of current interest in the group include collective phenomena in the solar system/exoplanetary systems, dynamics of galactic nuclei, black hole accretion physics, and transients including extreme AGN variability and tidal disruption events.
Our theory group is part of the Astrophysical & Planetary Sciences (APS) department at CU Boulder. APS is affiliated with several research centers and institutes (LASP, CASA, JILA) and offers access to observing (SDSS IV/V, APO 3.5m) and supercomputing facilities. The APS department recognizes that the effectiveness and creativity of a group is strengthened by contributions from diverse perspectives. We therefore welcome candidates who have demonstrated leadership toward building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in physics or astronomy or an equivalent degree by the date of employment. Initial appointment will be for two years, with a possible extension up to three years, depending on performance and funding.
Qualified applicants should submit a single pdf containing:
• Cover letter
• CV (including publications)
• Statement of research interests and goals (3 pages or less)
Applicants should also arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent by e-mail to Dr. Ann-Marie Madigan. Review of applications will begin on December 15, 2018 and continue until the positions are filled. CU is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
