Job Description

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in X-ray AGN surveys (Post doc position - "ASI-INAF missioni") at the Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF) - Osservatorio di Astrofisica e Scienza dello Spazio (OAS) in Bologna.

INAF-OAS is one of the main departments of INAF, the largest infrastructure in Italy for research in Astrophysics, made by a network of 16 departments spread across the country.

The successful candidate will join the extragalactic X-ray group in Bologna and investigate the demography and cosmological evolution of AGN by means of X-ray surveys. He/she will also perform feasibility studies of AGN surveys by future X-ray mission concepts (STAR-X, AXIS, ...).

The appointment is expected to begin between February and June 2019 (to be agreed with the successful applicant), and will be for two years in the first instance, and renewable afterwards, subject to fund availability and performance review.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to contact Dr. Roberto Gilli ([email protected]) for additional information. The official call for applications, along with all the relevant documents and guidelines, can be found at:

https://www.oas.inaf.it/en/opportunities/adr-175-2018-en/

Preference will be given to young researchers who obtained a PhD degree in Physics or Astronomy in the year 2014 or later. Previous experience on X-ray AGN surveys, multi-band source catalogs, and demography and evolution of AGN will be an advantage.

Applications should be submitted via email to: [email protected] by January 7, 2019. Up to three reference letters should be e-mailed separately to: [email protected] by the same deadline.

INAF is an equal opportunity employer and women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
