Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, Position in Physics (Divisional ID# UTSC-17-19, Approved by Provost: Jun 23, 2017)

The Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences at the University of Toronto Scarborough invites applications for a teaching stream appointment in Physics. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, and will commence on July 1, 2018. Candidate must have a Ph.D. in Physics, or a field related to Physics, by the time of appointment. Applicants must have expertise in areas that are transferable to teaching strength in both laboratory and theoretical physics courses. Expertise in computational areas of physics will be considered an asset.

 

Candidates must demonstrate an ability to teach a range of courses, from large enrolment courses to supervising undergraduate projects. The successful candidate will be expected to provide theory-based classroom teaching and make significant contributions, through modern experiments, to enhancing the Department’s introductory and intermediate laboratory course offerings, including foundation lectures, laboratory supervision and tutorials. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in teaching Physics at the university level, a commitment to pedagogical enquiry, curriculum development, teaching innovation, and an interest in developing a long-term career in teaching and related scholarly activity in Physics. Evidence of excellence and commitment to teaching and pedagogical enquiry will be demonstrated by: strong letters of reference; strong student course evaluations; a teaching portfolio that includes a statement of teaching philosophy exhibiting evidence of excellent pedagogical practice; and demonstrated superior performance in other teaching related activities, including performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor, leadership of successful workshops or seminars, and/or preparation of conference posters or presentations.
