Job Description

The Department of Physics & Astronomy (physics.cofc.edu) at the College of Charleston invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship position in astrophysics to begin in fall 2020. The ART Fellow will be expected to teach one course per semester. The Fellow will be mentored in their teaching, and support will be provided for planning lessons and developing course material and assignments. The ART Fellow will also be expected to sustain an active research agenda in collaboration with Prof. Fragile and his undergraduate students. This will include generating publishable results, presenting at conferences, and possibly writing grant applications. Collaboration with other faculty and students within the department may also be possible. A PhD in physics, astronomy, or a closely related field is required by the start date. Experience with astrophysical fluid dynamics simulations, plus some background in high-energy astrophysics is preferred. Skills in code development or parallel computing would be a bonus.

Qualified applicants should submit: 1) a cover letter; 2) a curriculum vitae; 3) a description of their research background and plans; and 4) the names, addresses, e-mail addresses, and telephone numbers of three professional references. Applications should be submitted electronically through https://jobs.cofc.edu/postings/9135. Questions can be directed to Prof. Chris Fragile ([email protected]). Review of applications will begin on December 1, 2019 and continue until the position is filled.
