We invite applications for a postdoc position in the general field of galaxies and cosmology. The position is initially for 2 years, but has good prospects for extension, depending on the performance of the applicant and on the availability of funding. The starting time is negotiable. Applicants must possess a Ph.D. in astrophysics, or a closely related area.
Candidates with the background in galaxy formation and evolution, galactic structure, large-scale structure of the Universe, galaxy surveys, dark matter and dark energy are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be able to conduct his or her own research as well as participate in the current research of Tartu Observatory and in the national and European funding schemes. Tartu Observatory is a member of the J-PAS (http://www.j-pas.org) and the 4MOST (https://www.4most.eu/cms/) projects.
Tartu Observatory (https://kosmos.ut.ee/en) is among the leading astronomical research institutes in North-Eastern Europe, its strongest research being carried out in the field of the large-scale structure of the Universe. It offers a vibrantly modern and friendly work environment and conducts research in a broad and active international collaboration. It currently hosts 15 staff members and 4 PhD students in astrophysics.
The successful applicant is offered a gross salary starting from 2200 Euros per month (1700 Euros net), depending on his/her work experience. Further uprating is possible.
