Job Announcement Text:

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position focusing on black hole astrophysics with Prof. Alexandra Tetarenko at the University of Lethbridge. This position is planned for two years, with an extension for a third year contingent on the availability of funding. The successful candidate will work on topics related to accretion driven jets launched from black holes, including: multi-wavelength spectral-timing, high resolution imaging studies, astro-chemical studies of jet impact sites, multi-wavelength polarimetry, transient followup, programming and code development. Additionally, there is the opportunity to get involved in the Event Horizon Telescope collaboration, for which Prof. Tetarenko is a leading member.

The successful candidate will be expected to spent 80% of the time on predefined projects, and will be given 20% of the time for independent research. This is a grant funded position and will include a generous stipend, travel funds, and computing equipment.

Qualifications: PhD in Astrophysics or related field. Expertise in observational studies of X-ray binaries, the analysis of multi-wavelength data (in particular at long wavelengths with facilities such as VLA, ALMA), as well as programming experience is preferred.

Applications should be submitted via the University of Lethbridge careers webpage by Dec 1, 2023 to receive full consideration (https://uleth.peopleadmin.ca/postings/6809). A complete application must include: (1) cover letter, (2) 2-page research statement describing the applicant’s research interests, (3) CV with a publication list, and (4) contact information for 3 references who will be contacted to submit confidential letters.

The University of Lethbridge hires on the basis of merit and is strongly committed to equity and diversity within its community.
