Job Description
The Karl Schwarzschild Fellowship is awarded regularly with an alternating focus on extragalactic and stellar astrophysics. This year's competition focuses on stellar astrophysics and the selected fellow is expected to strengthen or complement current work on the exploration of exoplanets and their host stars.
Schwarzschild fellows are identified in a competitive international search. The successful Schwarzschild Fellow should have received their PhD within the past five years. Schwarzschild Fellows are expected to carry out an independent research program and to contribute to the scientific life of the AIP including co-supervision of students. The Fellowship is awarded for three years initially and may be extended up to five years, subject to a mid-term evaluation.
The fellowship provides a competitive salary based on the German public service scale (TV-L E14) and an individual research expense budget of 20,000 € for the full five years.
