We invite applications and nominations for the position of Chair of the Department of Physics. The anticipated start date is August 12, 2019. The candidate must have a Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field and a record of scholarly work appropriate for appointment at a senior rank. The successful applicant should ideally have a demonstrated record of leadership and administrative effectiveness, a strong commitment to the principles of faculty governance, teaching experience, and good interpersonal skills. The candidate will teach departmental courses and be expected to carry out an active research program that will complement or enhance the current research programs, with preference to a theoretical area.
The University of Idaho is the principal research institution in Idaho and the state’s leading Ph.D. granting university. The department consists of ten faculty and offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees. The primary areas of research in the department are experimental condensed matter physics, planetary science and astronomy, theoretical nuclear physics, and experimental and computational biophysics.
