The Department of Astronomy at Xiamen University invites applicants for multiple postdoctoral positions within the broad area of extragalactic astronomy, high energy astrophysics, and survey data science. The successful candidates are encouraged to collaborate broadly with faculty members in our department.
Applicants interested in collaboration with researchers in Shanghai Astronomical Observatory (SHAO) will also be considered for the SHAO-XMU Joint Center for Astrophysics Postdoctoral Fellowship.
Applicants are expected to have completed the degree requirements for a PhD in astronomy or related fields at the time of appointment, with a demonstrated track record of research. Preference will be given to candidates with research interests in the following areas: star formation in galaxies near and far, neutron star, black hole, accretion disk, gamma-ray bursts, fast radio burst, X-ray binaries, multiwavelength observations of galaxies and AGNs, the interstellar, circumgalactic, and intergalactic medium, slitless optical/infrared spectroscopy, large-scale survey, dark matter model and detection, neutrino physics and gravitational wave. With 13 faculty members, the department is engaged in domestic and international collaborations such as FAST, JCMT, IRAM/NOEMA, PFS. We are also involved in TMT, LSST, HXMT, eXTP and JUNO collaborations.
Funding exists for multiple years and the initial appointment will be for two years, with possible renewal for a third year. The preferred starting date is September 2020 or earlier. The positions offer competitive salary compared to local standard.
Applications must include a curriculum vitae with a list of publications and a research plan, and arrange for three letters of reference to be emailed to email@example.com.
