The Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a position at the Assistant Professor tenure-track level. Outstanding candidates in all subfields of observational Astronomy and Astrophysics will be considered. We are especially seeking applications from candidates with research interests in extragalactic astronomy.
UCSC is the home of the University of California Observatories (UCO), with instrumentation development laboratories, the Laboratory for Adaptive Optics, and observing facilities including the Lick and Keck Observatories. UCO is at the center of the University of California participation in the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) International Observatory. It is also one of the world's leading centers for research in computational astrophysics, which includes the cross-departmental research unit Theoretical Astrophysics Santa Cruz (TASC).
The current faculty has strengths in optical and near-IR observations, theory, numerical simulations, and instrumentation, with special concentrations in cosmology and galaxy formation, galactic structure, high- energy astrophysics, star and planet formation, and particle astrophysics. Programs at UCSC that are relevant to the advertised position include UCO, TASC, and the Santa Cruz Institute for Particle Physics (SCIPP) (http://astro-research.ucsc.edu). We seek candidates whose research will integrate with these programs and broaden the scope of our faculty.
