Job Description

The Thüringer Landessternwarte (TLS) is a state observatory near the university city of Jena. The TLS performs research in various fields from the search for extrasolar planets to the variability of quasars. The TLS operates the 2m Alfred Jensch telescope, participates in many instrumentation projects and operates an international station of the Low Frequency Array (LOFAR). 

The TLS is offering a postdoc position in radio astronomy. The position is intended to pursue research on galaxy cluster physics, Active Galactic Nuclei, galactic evolution, transient objects or star formation using large radio surveys. Successful candidates are expected to make use of the TLS involvement in LOFAR. The research may be carried out in close collaboration to the LOFAR Surveys Key Science Project. An involvement in MeerKAT, ASKAP or SKA would be beneficial.  

The TLS aims to increase the number of women in research and teaching and explicitly encourages women to apply. Handicapped persons will receive preference over equally qualified non-disabled applicants.

The position is intended to start by April 1, 2020, however, a later start date is possible.

Successful candidates need to hold a PhD in physics or astronomy.
