The Faculty of Physical Sciences, University of Iceland invites applications for one postdoctoral research position in dark matter astrophysics. The successful candidate will join the research group led by Dr. Jesús Zavala Franco, working on exploring the nature of dark matter with Near-Field cosmology within a generalized framework of galaxy formation and evolution (ETHOS). Such framework includes the impact of allowed non-gravitational dark matter interactions within cosmological hydrodynamical simulations. This project is funded by a grant given by the Icelandic Research Fund, and has the overarching objective of finding clues of new dark matter physics in the properties of galaxies across time.
The ideal candidate should have a strong background in the particle nature of dark matter, its connections to cosmology and the formation and evolution of galaxies. The appointment is for 2 years starting in the fall of 2020. In addition to offering a competitive salary, there will be a budget for travel expenses to attend conferences and make research visits.
Suitable candidates must hold a PhD in Physics or Astronomy, and submit a formal application online in this website* by the deadline (April 21st, 2020). An application package includes: i) a cover letter, ii) a CV, iii) publication list, iv) a statement of research interests and experience, v) certificates of education (MSc and PhD degree) and vi) 3 letters of recommendation to be sent directly to email@example.com. Those applicants that do not have yet a PhD degree but are expected to get it by the Fall of 2020 will be considered for the position, on the condition that proof of the degree is provided in due time.
Further inquiries about the position are welcome.
